Easily accessible from Casablanca and Marrakech, Oualidia, thanks to its natural riches and the splendor of its lagoon, is by far one of the most interesting places to visit in Morocco.
Birth of a city
The very existence of the city of Oualidia is due to the lagoon. Stretching over 8 kilometers, it winds along the coastline, giving rise to a variety of landscapes: islets, lakes, and marshy areas. A natural spectacle rarely found in a single location. It was no coincidence that King Mohammed V established his summer residence there. The remains of his palace are still there, recalling this period of splendor, during which the king and his family, as well as a string of celebrities, businessmen, politicians, and artists, came to stay there every summer.
An ideal place for sport and relaxation
Even today, and to the delight of vacationers, the lagoon offers a magnificent place for swimming and practicing water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, or sailing. The less adventurous will appreciate the vast beach that stretches along both sides of the breakwater, for less sensational games or for sunbathing. Fishing is also one of the popular activities, and widely practiced on the lagoon. The beauty of the lagoon seduces and attracts, and it is no coincidence that the city suddenly grows, during the summer, from 10,000 inhabitants to more than 30,000. The attentive traveler will remember to book in advance!
Oyster feast
From swimming to culinary delights, Oualidia has much to offer. Gourmets will enjoy tasting sweet and generous oysters in one of the many seafront restaurants. Red mullet, sea bream, sea bream, and many other fish that Oualidia's sea is rich and generous with are also featured. Oyster farming has largely contributed to the town's reputation, and it is possible to visit the oyster farms. At sunset, the spectacle is a pure delight.
A breathtaking panorama
One of the most impressive spectacles the Lagoon offers visitors takes place at low tide. As the sea recedes, it reveals lush green islets that cows readily swim to, enjoying this seagrass meadow. Take the time to contemplate these natural beauties and witness the miracle of cyclical regeneration. Treat yourself to a felucca ride that will take you to the other side of the lagoon to discover camphor woods and a varied and refreshing natural habitat.
