The White City is unique in Morocco because it is the only one to house two medinas: an old and a new one. The new medina, also known as the Habous district, was built between 1918 and 1955 to accommodate the influx of migrants from all over Morocco.

The best destination for lovers of history and authenticity

The new medina was designed by French architects who adhered to modern urban planning standards while honoring traditional Moroccan style and practices. Over time, this charming neighborhood has transformed into a vast, tidy, and well-organized tourist market. A plethora of vendors selling handicrafts, leather goods, rugs, and traditional clothing can be found in its maze of narrow streets, squares, and arcades.

Tourists and residents stroll under the arcades of the Habous district while admiring its beautiful architecture.

This "modern" medina, built by the French in the 1920s, was designed to combine traditional houses with European-style luxury. Under the vast, shaded arcades, shops and stalls line the streets, offering a wide range of Moroccan handicrafts: rugs, hammered copper, colorful ceramics, carved wood, and leather.

The Habous were above all a place of life for the entire population before becoming a tourist destination.

This neighborhood was built in the style of a typical medina. It is home to multiple places of worship, including the Mohammed V Mosque, various souks, several hammams, and the Kissaria craft market, all respecting Muslim style and practices.
