RABAT CITY TOUR
Practices
Rabat, the administrative capital of Morocco, is located less than 100 km from the center of Casablanca and connected to all the cities of the Casablanca-Settat region by a beautiful highway or by train. There's no excuse, then, not to discover this beautiful, elegant city steeped in history, where you can breathe easy thanks to its many green spaces.
Although the capital is very large and has several old and new districts, the must-sees for a visit would undoubtedly be: the lovely Kasbah of the Oudayas which overlooks the Bouregreg, the ruins of Chellah, a necropolis which dates from the time of the Merinids, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the "modern" city center near the station with architecture so typical of the protectorate period and finally the souk.
If you have the time, you should also visit the splendid Mohammed VI Museum, which houses permanent collections of contemporary Moroccan art and hosts large-scale temporary exhibitions.
A visit to the Museum of History and Civilizations offers a glimpse into Morocco's history, from prehistory to the Islamic era. Rabat is also a city where culture has many events on offer; check before you go, there might be a musical event you won't want to miss.
